HK, Tsunami Saipan swimmers split honors
Swimmers from Hong Kong Sword Fish Swim Club and Tsunami Saipan posted the fastest times in the 20-meter races in the 2011 Hong Kong-Saipan Goodwill Meet held last Saturday at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool.
In the 20m freestyle, Hong Kong’s Cheuk Ying So timed in at 15.42 seconds, beating nine other swimmers. Tsunami Saipan’s Quina Flores submitted 16.46 seconds to place second, while Hong Kong’s Chun Yuen Wong and Hoi Lam Wong both tallied 16.83 seconds for a share of third place. Rounding out the Top 5 best times were Tsunami Saipan’s Karen Irinaka (17.55 seconds), and Hong Kong’s Chung Yo Yin (18.37 seconds).
Others entered in the event were Hong Kong’s Wai Ning (18.41 seconds) and Yee Ching Wong (19 seconds), Tsunami Saipan’s Towa Irinaka (23.69 seconds), and Saipan Swim Club’s Louis Henly (29.82 seconds).
So also had the best time in the 20m breaststroke, clocking in at 20.16 seconds. The Hong Kong swimmer prevailed over teammates Hoi Lam (21.32 seconds) and Yee Ching Wong (21.72 seconds), Tsunami Saipan’s Karen Irinaka (21.76 seconds), and Wai Ning Wong (22.07 seconds). Six others joined the 20m breaststroke race.
Flores denied So a third straight win when the former ruled the 20m backstroke. The Tsunami Saipan swimmer logged 17.57 seconds in the 20m backstroke, outracing So (18.66 seconds) and Chun Yuen (20.26 seconds). Completing the Top 5 were SSC’s Michael Villagomez (20.63 seconds) and Wai Ning Wong (21:00).
Patrick Reyes gave Tsunami Saipan the second win in the short distance races when he recorded the best time in the 20m butterfly at 14.70 seconds. He defeated teammates Min Seok (18.59) and Heong Joo Yoo (18.71 seconds). Another Tsunami Saipan bet, Riyana Camacho (21.43 seconds), broke into the Top 5 with Hong Kong’s (20.41 seconds).
The 20m races are side events in the weekend meet Tsunami Saipan hosted.
A separate competition in the 40m swims took place with the Top 5 finishers in the preliminary races advancing to the A Finals and the sixth to 10th placers marching to the B Finals.
