VisMinda clobbers MAFEA
VisMinda/PIAHI recovered from its debut loss in the UFO Inter-Organization Youth and Masters Basketball Docomo Pacific Cup 2011 with a 90-66 demolition of MAFEA/RNV on Tuesday night at the TSL Sports Complex.
After battling MAFEA in a close match in the first half, VisMinda turned on the heat in the second en route to a 24-point win, its first after bowing to defending champion Cabalen/Wings Travel during the league’s opening on Aug. 14, 60-90.
MAFEA fell to a 0-2 record, as the curse of the third-quarter collapse continued to haunt the team. In its first loss, MAFEA also had a neck-and-neck battle with MDX/Armatech in the first half. Then in the third period, MDX outgunned MAFEA, 29-17, and the former went on to cruise to a 110-77 victory. MAFEA allowed MDX too many open shots both from outside and inside.
Against VisMinda, MAFEA did it again. After missing its shots, MAFEA was slow to return to transition defense, allowing VisMinda easy fastbreak layups and uncontested baskets. Ray Lizama and Junior Renguul had a bundle of those layups and short jumpers, respectively, while Jun Abedes made two leisurely taken triples.
VisMinda led by only five at halftime, 41-36, and then outscored MAFEA in the third, 21-11, for a 62-47 advantage. VisMinda stretched the lead to 20 plus in the fourth, as its bench escaped with unchallenged shots in the last two minutes of the match.
Renguul and Abedes led VisMinda in scoring with 18 markers each, while Leo Ruluked and Lizama added 17 and 10, respectively. Ed Cosino and Danny Bicera made 13 apiece for VisMinda, while Elmer Pineda chipped in 11.
VisMinda 90 – Abedes 18, Renguul 18, Ruluked 17, Lizama 10, Manipon 8, Alejandro 6, Bugay 5, Anasan 4, Garcia 2, Suda 2.
MAFEA 66 – Bicera 13, Cosino 13, Pineda 11, de la Torre 6, Sevilla 4, Vistal 3, Canoy 3, Manalili 2, Guirey 2.
Scoring by quarters: 22-13, 41-36, 62-47, 90-66.
