A tropical disturbance that is expected to intensify into a tropical depression brought heavy rains in the CNMI and Guam yesterday and the rain and gusty winds may continue until today, Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Guam, the tropical disturbance is not expected to track over the Mariana Islands, but it is expected to produce some periods of heavy rain, gusty winds, rough seas and high surf for Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and Guam.

“Periods of heavy rain will continue today [Wednesday] and last off-and-on through Thursday,” NWS said.

As the disturbance is still in the initial stages of formation, NWS said that Marianas residents should monitor the system through today, Thursday.

A high surf advisory remains in effect until 5pm today, Thursday.

“Avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches especially those along south and west facing reefs as rip currents are life threatening,” NWS advised residents.
