Shirley’s A, B stay on top

Sister teams Shirley’s A and B kept the lead in the women’s division of the 2011 Saipan Soccer School Futsal League after downing separate foes on Monday night at the TSL Sports Complex.

Shirley’s B played in the second game of the night and shutout IT&E Blossom, 9-0. Seven players scored for Shirley’s B, improving the team’s record to 6-1-0 (win-loss-draw). Marriele Gariguez and Jeralyn Castillo drilled two goals apiece, while Mikky Vargas, Alexa Vergara, Lily Williams, Nicole Arbolinas, and Gigi Zapanta added one each.

It was the second time that Shirley’s B blanked IT&E Blossom in the double-round robin competition. In the first round, Shirley’s B crushed IT&E Blossom, 12-0.
[B] Shirley’s A, 3, Red Team 1[/B]

In the other women’s game, Shirley’s A defeated Red Team, 3-1.

Irish Pagarao delivered twin goals for Shirley’s A to give her team its seventh win in eight games. She notched both goals in the second half, allowing Shirley’s A to recover from a 0-1 halftime deficit. Marilou Gariguez scored the other goal for Shirley’s A in the final 25 minutes of the match.

Zoe Jewell put Red Team in the scoreboard and in the driver’s seat with her goal in the first half, but the squad still lost and dropped to a 3-5-0 card for fourth place.
[B] MEN’S

Go Green Team 4, Thundercats 1[/B]

In the first men’s game, Go Green Team foiled the Thundercats’ bid for enter the win column, 4-1.

Jersh Angeles and Semisi connected on two goals apiece for Go Green, which now has a 4-2-2 slate for share of third place with Docomo and Red Inter. The Thundercats absorbed their eighth loss in as many games.

Semisi’s first goal in the opening frame lifted Go Green to a 1-0 halftime lead and he added one more in the second half, while Angeles scored both goals in the final frame to secure the win.

The Thundercats avoided a shutout when Li Zhi Peng lit up the scoreboard in the second half.

[B]Mellow Yellow 9, IT&E Men 4[/B]

In the other men’s match, Mellow Yellow notched its second win after thwarting IT&E Men, 9-4.

Gabriel Arkoh made things happen for Mellow Yellow, as he sizzled for four goals. He had a hat-trick in the first half, powering Mellow Yellow to a 5-2 lead. Kirk Schuler and Aji Thomas had one goal each for IT&E in the first frame.

Arkoh hit another one in the second half and was joined by Allen Mijares, Yong Sang Lim, and Woo Ho Jin in the scoreboard to beat IT&E. Thomas was the only player who scored for IT&E in the final half, dropping the team to a 2-7-0 slate. Mellow Yellow now has a 2-6-0 card.
