Cuthbert Project, GCC partnership awarded $85.87K Interior funding

[B]WASHINGTON, D.C.[/B]—Assistant Secretary of the Interior for Insular Areas Tony Babauta signed Friday a grant for $85,874 to support the efforts of the Cuthbert Project through its new partner, the Guam Community College.
The Cuthbert Project, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to helping build capacity and increase opportunities for students in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. The funding will support the collaborative efforts between GCC and the Cuthbert Project, increasing the project’s outreach in Chuuk to provide essential developmental English language skills as well as supplementing Chuuk’s efforts to establish the infrastructure necessary to ensure that educational opportunities are extended to these students.
“This collaboration between the GCC and the Cuthbert Project will greatly benefit the students of Micronesia. The effort demonstrates the important role non-governmental organizations can have to fill gaps where a need exists. In the case of the Cuthbert Project, which is spearheaded by Bill Hagen, I am truly pleased to know that Guam’s business community has also been supportive and I encourage their continued involvement. The Cuthbert Project ensures that vulnerable Micronesian populations are not left behind, it builds capacity, and ensures that students are equipped with essential skills for success,” said Babauta.
Funds will go toward the purchase of laptops, projectors, Rosetta Stone software licenses and additional supplies. Courses offered through the Cuthbert Project introduce students to personalized learning games that address a comprehensive interactive curriculum. [B][I](OIA)[/I][/B]
