Fitial wraps up almost a month of off-island travel

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial wrapped up during the weekend almost a month of off-island travel both for medical reason and official functions.
Fitial left Saipan on July 5 and came back yesterday, July 31.
The governor’s first stop was to Nagoya, Japan where he was to have a coronary angiogram.
However, the Fitial administration has yet to confirm whether such procedure was done.
After Japan, Fitial went to San Francisco, California for the meeting of the Region 9 Federal Regional Council.
He then proceeded to Washington, D.C. to testify against a bill that Delegate Gregorio Kilili Sablan introduced, and on the implementation of U.S. Public Law 110-229 which placed CNMI immigration under federal control.
Sablan’s HR 1466 proposes a “CNMI-only resident status” for four groups of people, including those who have U.S. citizen children or spouses.
Fitial also traveled to Utah to attend the National Governors Association Annual Meeting.
The governor also went to Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia last week to attend the Micronesia Chief Executives Summit.
The summit is composed of the chief executives from Guam, the CNMI, Palau, the Marshall Islands, and the FSM’s four state governors of Chuuk, Yap, Pohnpei, and Kosrae.
