A teenager who was caught hiding inside a closet after breaking into a house in Kagman II and sexually abusing a female minor was slapped yesterday with a seven-year prison term.

Nineteen-year-old Brandon Jay Lisua Borja pleaded guilty Wednesday to a count of sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree as part of a plea deal. The remaining charges were dropped.

Superior Court associate judge Kenneth L. Govendo sentenced Borja to 10 years in prison, all suspended except for seven years, to be served without the possibility of parole.

Borja was given credit for the 100 days he had already served in jail. After completing his sentence, he will be placed on 10 years of probation.

Borja was also ordered to pay a $2,000 fine, plus restitution to the victim, court costs, and probation fees. He was required to write a letter of apology to the victim and her mother. He is also barred from drinking alcohol or using controlled substances during his probation.

The Office of the Attorney General had charged Borja with two counts of sexual assault in the first degree, two counts of sexual abuse of minor in the second degree, one count of burglary, and one count of disturbing the peace.

In consideration of Borja’s guilty plea and recognizing his early acceptance of responsibility, the government agreed to dismiss the remaining counts, said assistant attorney general Shelli Neal.

Chief public defender Adam Hardwicke served as counsel for Borja.

Detective Peter A. Aldan stated in his report that the female victim was sleeping inside her bedroom in April when she woke up at 2am and saw Borja climbing into the sliding window next to her bed. Borja began molesting the girl but stopped when a light turned on outside the girl’s bedroom. He then hid inside the closet.

The girl’s mother entered the bedroom and noticed the closet moving. When she found Borja inside the closet, she called police.
