UFO caging starts Sunday
Defending champion MAFEA-Konflikt will start its title defense this Sunday when the UFO Inter-Org. Basketball Friendship League 2011 Bud Cup opens at the Civic Center Basketball Court in Susupe.
MAFEA-Konflikt, which swept 2009 champion MDX-Chow Queen in the best-of-three finals last season, will play in the first game at 6pm. The defending champion’s foe will be determined via draw, which will take place after the opening ceremony.
The opening rites of the Bud Cup will begin at 2pm with teams and their respective muses participating in the traditional parade of squads. The organizing United Filipino Organization will then award trophies to the Best in Muse and Best in Uniform. UFO will also hand out trophies to the Top 3 finishers in last month’s 3-on-3 Pistang Pinoy basketball tournament
After the opening game at the Civic Center Court, two more matches will be played this Sunday, but these will be moved at the TSL Sports Complex in Gualo Rai. Games in the open division (21 to 39 age group) will be played every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at the TSL Sports Complex.
Joining MAFEA-Konflikt in the field are MDX-Bluehaus, Bayani-Mobil, Visminda-Satbahi, Cabalen-Noni, Namfrel-Proa, UPAA-Docomo, Cavite-Andoks Grill, and NMBA-Mix Blood.
Representatives of the nine teams are required to attend a meeting tonight at 6pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. They are also asked to bring a copy of their respective rosters and filled-out waiver forms.
Meanwhile, the masters and youth divisions of the UFO caging dubbed as the Docomo Pacific Cup will open on Aug. 14. Games schedule and other details of the two divisions will be released on a later date.
