Omechelang, Manacop top July roll-offs
After being winless for three months, Simon Manacop and Gloria Omechelang ended their skid as they prevailed in the 2011 Budweiser King and Queen of the Lanes July roll-offs at the Capitol Bowling Center.
Manacop bowled twice in the July tournament and his last Monday’s score of 830 pinfalls surpassed his last Sunday’s 830 pinfalls, allowing him to beat 16 other keglers for the monthly title.
Omechelang joined only last Sunday’s roll-off and her 676 pinfalls were unbeaten in the second day of the tournament, handing the veteran bowler the July tiara. Both Manacop and Omechelang topped the March roll-offs before sliding in the next three monthly tournaments.
Omechelang started her bid for the July crown on a positive note, knocking down 196 pins in Game 1, the most in the field for two days. She drilled 154 and 142 pinfalls in the next two games and then had 184 in the last for an average of 169 pinfalls.
Rounding out the Top 3 were Mel Regis and Carol McKenzie, who totaled 661 and 656 pinfalls in four games, respectively. Regis recorded 160 and 164 in the first two games, logged 159 in the last, and played her best in the third with 178 pinfalls for an average of 165.25. McKenzie carded 172, 154, 154 and 176, for an average of 164 pinfalls.
In the King of the Lanes, Manacop scored more than 200 pinfalls in the first three games (201, 236, and 214) and had 179 last Monday for an average of 207.50. Last Sunday, he tallied 226, 186, 210, and 185 for an average of 201.75 pinfalls per game.
Brothers Raymond and Raphael Zapanta completed the Top 3 with 777 and 743 pinfalls, respectively.
Meanwhile, in the Fiji Water Prince/Princess of the Lanes July roll-off, Marion McKenzie clinched his third straight win after besting three other youth keglers.
McKenzie had a four-game total of 638 pinfalls to beat M.J. Aldan (524), younger brother, Marcel (396), and Jasper Manacop (270).
