Rota will experience heavy rains until Friday as a tropical disturbance has been intensifying since yesterday southwest of Chuuk.

The National Weather Service in Guam urged residents of Rota and Guam yesterday to closely monitor the progress of this tropical disturbance since a deviation to the right of the anticipated track could still bring damaging winds to the Mariana Islands later this week.

As of yesterday afternoon, the tropical disturbance was not expected to track near or over the Mariana Islands, but it is expected to produce some periods of heavy rain, gusty winds, rough seas, and high surf for Rota and Guam.

The weather agency said that the system is expected to intensify into a tropical depression in the next 12 to 24 hours.

As of 4pm yesterday, the center of the tropical depression was 205 miles west-southwest of the Chuuk Lagoon, 610 miles south-southeast of Rota, 660 miles south-southeast of Saipan, and 585 miles south-southeast of Guam.
