Party Rockers, Lazy Buttsss win
Party Rockers and the Lazy Buttsss closed out the regular season of the 2011 TSL Women’s Summer Basketball League with separates wins on Friday night at the TSL Sports Complex.
In the first game of the last day of the three-round robin competition, Party Rockers clobbered Mix-A-Lot, 80-56. Party Rockers finished the regular season with an 8-1 record and gained the top seeding in tomorrow’s single-elimination playoffs.
Mix-A-Lot fell to a 3-6 card and booked the third slot in the playoffs, beating the Lazy Buttsss in the tiebreak.
The Lazy Buttsss also had a 3-6 card, following a 65-62 triumph over Aye Par Battay in the second game, but the former dropped to fourth, as it lost to the Lazy Buttss twice in the regular season.
Aye Par Battay placed second with its 4-5 slate and will play Mix-A-Lot in the playoffs tomorrow. Party Rockets and the Lazy Buttsss will collide in the other playoff game and winners of tomorrow’s matches will duel in the championship tiff on Friday.
Rachel Abrams played her best offensive game in the league against Mix-A-Lot, as she sizzled for 27 points. Jeralyn Castillo and Kaylani Lebria also broke into double figures with 20 and 14 markers, respectively
Abrams scored six of Party Rockers’first eight markers and went on to finish with 16 first-half points to give her team a 37-24 halftime advantage. Kayla Ito and Lebria added six markers apiece in Party Rockers’ strong start.
Then in the second half, Castillo kicked off the game with back-to-back triples. She hit three more shots from downtown to lead Party Rockers’ breakaway, while Abrams added 11.
Lalaine Pagarao fired 37 markers in the losing end and had only Madeleine Alegre and Chesca de Luna helping her out on offense with 15 and four markers, respectively.
In the second game, Ira Palero drilled 32 points, including six of the Lazy Buttsss’ last 11 points to slip past Aye Par Battay. Elilai Pialug and Marie Javier also hit clutch shots with the former nailing a triple and the latter making a two-pointer.
The game was close for start to finish and the Lazy Buttsss prevailed in the end after drawing decisive baskets from its three key players.
