Hoops triumph over Blue Haus
Dave Sablan and Kelvin Fitial combined for 45 points to lift the Hoops to a 52-34 rout of Blue Haus during their game in the Hoops-Rollers Basketball Club Step-Up Tournament last Saturday at the Garapan Basketball Court.
Sablan exploded for 23 points and had five three-pointers, while Fitial chipped in 22.
In the other open game, Salbahe tutored Rollers U16-B, 58-38. Errol Peredo led Salbahe with 17 markers, while Rollers U16-B’s Erick Dela Rosa and Daryl Suarez managed to break double figures with 16 and 10 points, respectively.
In other results in the age group divisions, Rollers U14-A soared past sister team B in the curtain raiser, 51-9, while RBC U12’s Fotten Gaga rallied over U12 Konflikt, 25-23.
All nine Rollers U14-A players managed at least one basket apiece in the onslaught and Prince Factor led the winning team with 10 points.
Fotten Gaga’s CJ Morales stole the show in the U12 division, making 11 points and two assists in the second half, while Konflikt’s Kyle Rios and Wilfred Francisco delivered 10.
The Hoops-RBC tournaments aims to challenge younger players to compete at a higher level, while still forcing the more experienced players to work on their half court offensive strategy. Other ground rules are put in place when adult teams challenge youth squads.
The midpoint of the four-week event tips off tonight in Garapan, starting with a 4pm U12 exhibition match between RBC’s Fotten Gaga and Konflikt. Saturday’s make up game comes next at 5pm, followed by the Happiness- RBC U16-A tiff at 6pm. Then Rollers U14-A takes on Rollers Madness at 7pm and the evening closes at 8pm with Blue Haus challenging Rollers U18.
In related news, RBC is holding a number of fundraisers to help send RBC’s U12, U14 A and B, U16 A and B, U18 and U25 teams in Guam for the 7th Annual Take-Care Thanksgiving Hoop-Fest Youth Basketball Tournament, which will run from Nov. 21 to Dec. 7.
RBC is holding car washes on Aug. 12 and Sept. 23 and “Smoke Meet” fundraisers on Aug. 26 and Sept. 9. Other fundraisers include RBC’s Family Fun Day on October 14; RBC’s Mix Pageant on Oct. 29; and RBC U16 and U18 Basketball Tournament from Nov. 4 to 6 at the Garapan Basketball Court.
