Aye Par Battay snaps skid in women’s league
Aye Par Battay is back on track after defeating Mix-A-Lot, 51-40, in the second game in the 2011 TSL Women’s Summer Basketball League on Wednesday night at the TSL Sports Complex.
The victory ended Aye Par Battay’s three-game losing skid and improved the squad’s record to 4-4 for second place in the team standings behind the league-leading Party Rockers (7-1). Mix-A-Lot continued its slide, absorbing its third loss in the last four games for a 3-5 mark.
Mix-A-Lot failed to regain its form in its penultimate game when it missed the services of top-scorer Lalaine Pagarao, who was on another venue, playing in a futsal league.
Though Mix-A-Lot played sans Pagarao, it remained it contention in the first half, behind by only a hair at halftime, 24-25. Madeleine Alegre kept Mix-A-Lot in the match with her 10 points in the first 20 minutes of play.
Jaime Mendoza and Joana Palero teamed up for Aye Par Battay in the first half, combining for 16 markers, while Angie Ito chipped in six.
Then in the second half, the lack of enough manpower took its toll on Mix-A-Lot, while Aye Par Battay’s starting five played solid en route to an 11-point win.
Mendoza added eight more markers in the second half, while Nicole Arboliras knocked in 10 of her 12 points in that frame, as Aye Par Battay outgunned Mix-A-Lot, 26-16.
Mendoza finished with 16 points, Palero added 13, and Arboliras and Ito contributed 12 and 10, respectively.
In the first game, Party Rockers notched its seventh win in eight games after beating the Lazy Buttsss, 74-62.

The Lazy Buttsss had the lead in the first half, 33-30, but lost the upper hand in the second half when it allowed Kaylani Lebria to pile up points in the final 20 minutes of play.
Lebria, who was silent in the closing stage of the first half, posted 15 markers in the second, including seven of the Party Rockers’ last 13 points. Kayla Ito also stepped up in the second half, making all her six points in that period, while Jeraldine Castillo was consistent with her offensive game, adding seven.
Lebria led all scorers with her 23 points, while Castillo and Melody Johnson tallied 14 and 12, respectively.
Ira Palero paced the Lazy Buttsss with her 18 points, while Elilai Pialug and Daylinne Joseph added 12 apiece.
Meanwhile, the three-round robin regular season of the women’s league will conclude today with Party Rockers taking on Mix-A-Lot in the first match at 5:30pm and the Lazy Buttsss colliding against Aye Par Battay in the second game at 6:30pm.
