Pale Eric to speak at Humanities Council fundraiser
Pale Eric Forbes of Guam will be the featured speaker at the NMI Council for the Humanities 20th anniversary fundraiser to be held at the Pacific Islands Club on the evening of Aug. 12.
In his special remarks titled “I Korason un Mestisun Amerikano” (“The Heart of a Mixed Chamorro-American”), Pale Eric will reflect on the importance of humanities work from a personal perspective and the significant role the humanities play in understanding and preserving Marianas, Micronesian, and Pacific cultural identities.
Pale Eric is a Catholic priest and noted humanities scholar who over the past two decades has researched Marianas history in archives around the world.
He has authored several books on Church history in the Mariana Islands and also writes a Chamorro cultural blog at paleric.blogspot.com.
Many people in the CNMI know Pale Eric from his three-year assignment as a parish priest on Saipan in the early 1990s.
In addition to Pale Eric’s remarks, the fundraiser will feature a delicious summer cocktail menu, live island music, and an auction of art and photography produced by local artists.
Guests will also have the chance to win thousands of dollars in raffle prizes, including a round-trip ticket to Japan from Delta Air Lines, two round-trip tickets to Hong Kong from Fly Guam, and a weekend getaway at the Pacific Islands Club.
Tickets for the Council event are available at the Council office in Springs Plaza on Middle Road and from Council board members.
