Lazy Buttsss notches first win
The Lazy Buttsss finally barged into the win column in the 2011 BANMI Women’s Summer Basketball League after slipping past Mix-A-Lot, 70-63, Monday night at the TSL Sports Complex.
A balance scoring and 34-point explosion from Ira Palero lifted the Lazy Buttsss to its first win in six games.
Palero nailed eight of the Lazy Buttsss’ last 12 points, including two triples that sealed the team’s victory. Daylinne Joseph and Marie Javier also helped the Lazy Buttsss’s cause, as they finished in double figures with 14 and 12 markers, respectively. Charlene Lizardo and Elilai Pialug chipped in three points each and Riezel David and Chelsea Bartolo contributed two each to complete the Lazy Buttsss’ scoring.
While seven of the Lazy Buttsss’ eight players lit up the scoreboard, Mix-A-Lot had only two players scoring in Monday night’s game. Lalaine Pagarao almost single-handedly carried Mix-A-Lot to her shoulders, firing 53 points, while Maria Angela Iriarte added 10.
Pagarao drilled 25 of her total points in the first half, but since only she and Iriarte scored for Mix-A-Lot, the Lazy Buttsss took the lead at halftime, 30-27. Five different players canned baskets for the Lazy Buttsss in the opening half with Palero tallying 13 points, Joseph nailing six, and Javier posting four. Pialug, Lizardo, and David had one field goal each.
In the second half, Palero and Pagarao engaged in a shootout with the latter hitting five triples against the former’s two. At one point in the second half, Pagarao scored 20 straight markers, while Palero tallied 10 straight points. However, Pagarao failed to draw help from her teammates, while Palero found allies to snap the Lazy Buttsss’ losing skid.
