Fighters wanted for ROP 11: Onra
Trench Tech Purebred is inviting interested fighters to participate in Rites of Passage 11: Onra scheduled for September 9.
K-1 kick boxers, boxers, and mixed martial artists from both Saipan and Tinian teams are urged to register sooner to allow longer preparations leading up to the event, which may also feature Guam fighters.
“We received words from Guam fight teams about their interest in competing on Saipan for our Rites of Passage amateur event. I’m just getting the word out early to let all the local teams know about the healthy off-island competition. I want everyone to have time to train and prepare for the weigh-in and give myself time to make some attractive matchups,” Trench Tech president Cuki Alvarez said in a telephone interview yesterday.
Event organizers are especially looking for amateur level competitors to challenge a healthy list of potential Guam fighters. At least 15 MMA fighters from Team Guam Muay Thai K-1 and Team Counter Shot have expressed interest in making the trip over for Trench Tech’s fourth unarmed combat event of the year.
Muay Thai K-1 fighters include bantamweights Justin Dizon and Daniel Dee (both 130-140lbs), lightweights Jared Martin and Matt Arruejo (both 145-155lbs), welterweight Robin Young (155-165lbs), and middleweights Rom Garganera II (165-180lbs), Jesse Bunang (all 165-185lbs), Aaron Vegamora and Jason Toves (both 175-185lbs). The above fighters are first-time amateur K-1 kick boxers.
Team Counter Shot’s fighters include K-1 flyweights John Garcia (125lbs) and Jared Santos (120lbs), K-1 featherweight Vaughn Laguana (145lbs), lightweight boxer Brandon Payne (150lbs), MMA bantamweight Kevin Miranda (135lbs) and MMA light-heavyweight Mr. Matt (190lbs).
Trench Tech is also looking for a female boxer to square off against Guam’s Gianna Sarusal of Team Don Mon Boxing Guam at 130lbs.
The venue of the event is still being determined.
