House honors 46-year service of former Rota center nurse
Members of the House adopted a resolution during its session last week honoring the 46 years of untiring service of the late Lucia Castro Barcinas, a former nurse at the Rota Health Center.
Barcinas began her career in public health at the former Rota Dispensary, which later became the Rota Health Center.
She was born on March 25, 1940 and passed away on Sept. 19, 2009 at the age of 69.
Despite the pressure of her daily assignments at the Rota Health Center, Barcinas took the extra effort to comfort patients to ensure that their needs were promptly provided by the center.
She was also active in various community outreach programs, serving the elderly on Rota and taking part in various school immunization programs in the Commonwealth.
Understanding the importance of furthering one’s knowledge and skills, Barcinas participated in numerous workshops and trainings, including the 12th Annual Region 5 Pacific Basin Family Planning Conference held in May 1998 at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California.
The late Barcinas was also awarded several certificates and recognitions for her services including the Length of Services Award in 1992, a certificate of appreciation for untiring support, outstanding performance in 1998, and a certificate of hard work, dedication, and commitment to the Rota Health Center in 2004.
“Because of her dedication and commitment as a healthcare professional and as a member of Rota’s community, the late Lucia Castro Barcinas has impacted so many lives and in the eyes of many, the world has become a lesser place without her presence and grace,” stated the adopted resolution authored by Rep. Teresita Santos.
Barcinas was married to Abel Songsong Barcinas and they were blessed with eight children: Ricardo, Elizabeth, Patricia, Margarita, Edward, Luisa, Martha, and Regina.
