A parolee testified yesterday how the Board of Parole helped him become a better person and a productive member of society.

“They [Board of Parole] help us when we fall, and they want to see us succeed,” Pasqual Deleon Guerrero said in a client testimony at the proclamation signing for the 11th Annual Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Week held in the CNMI Supreme Court.

Deleon Guerrero said the parole granted him in October 2009 gave him a second chance.

“In prison, I saw everything taken away from me and I saw what was most important to me in my life,” he said.

Deleon Guerrero said he wants to change for the better and it was the Board of Parole that gave him that chance.

He remembered a Board of Parole member telling him to prove it to himself and do it for himself as they see some good in him.

“I have stumbled, I have fallen, at times I veer off the path but Parole has been there to pick me up and set me on the right path,” Deleon Guerrero said.

He said it was Parole that pushed him to attend classes, find a job, and keep that job.

Acting governor Eloy S. Inos and Chief Justice Miguel S. Demapan jointly signed the proclamation declaring July 17 to 23 as Probation, Parole and Community Supervision Week. Both expressed their appreciation to probation and parole officers for their contributions.

They acknowledged the contributions of probation and parole officers in making the community a safer place, making offenders accountable, and restoring victims’ rights.
