‘No limit’ spending

A few days ago, I read in the newspaper about the CNMI government’s overspending. I went to DFS in Garapan, and as I entered I ran into some friends there. “What’s the good news today?” they asked. I told them the hottest news was the government’s overspending. One of them commented that our congressmen are traveling too much and they do not lend more attention to serious local matters like the plight of the foreign nurses on Rota. In one instance, our lawmakers went to Washington D.C. to attend the hearing on Mr. Tony Babauta’s recommendation that status of the guest workers be improved. I don’t agree that our congressmen should not travel. Our islands are very small and to enable our congressmen to research or get current information for their proposed bills and resolutions, they have to travel from these islands. Also, it’s part of their job when they have their own allowance and allotment. It’s good for them to travel and transact business where they could negotiate and bring projects here to upswing our foundering economy.
