New magazine promises to feature best of islands
Bison Relations launched Tuesday night its new quarterly magazine, Tops +More, with managing editor Ulysses Sabuco promising to feature whatever is the best on the islands—whether it be food, hotel resorts, and even education.
“We talk about what is best but also what is local. Tops magazine’s birth was a product of something we’re trying to come up with which is something truly local and genuinely CNMI—Saipan, Tinian, and Rota,” he said during the cocktail party introducing the new medium at Giovanni’s of Hyatt Regency Saipan.
For its first issue, the magazine features the local sweet potato, kamote, on the front cover with exquisite plating by Hyatt executive chef Gabriel Colombo and up-and-coming chef de cuisine Zenn Tomomake.
“The magazine is about everything and anything on the island. The magazine’s first issue wants to feature great-tasting local food and beverage on island. Kamote on the cover is eye-catching. It’s something that has never been done before,” said Sabuco.
Publisher Wayne Pangelinan said the magazine is all about optimism.
“Tops +More is not just about putting out a feature on food or writing a story. We are putting out something optimistic but is tied by one common thread. For instance, food is featured in the first issue. But it will not always be about food. The main subject changes with every publication. Our next issue will be focusing on technology and education,” he said.
Tops Plus More is a quarterly magazine and has a circulation of 7,500. The contributors in its June issue include Kanae Quinn and Gonzalo Pangelinan while core group members are Derwin C. Johnson, James Lee, Emilinda Cabrera, Kameisha Padilla, and Jose Padilla.
