Public hearing today on Article 12 initiatives
The Senate Committee on Resources, Economic Development and Programs will be holding a public hearing today, July 12, 2011, on two initiatives relating to Article 12 of the CNMI Constitution.
The public hearing, to be held at 6pm at the Kagman Community Center, will take up:
-Senate Legislative Initiative 17-09: “To propose constitutional amendments to Article XII Section(s) 3, 4, and 5 of the CNMI Constitution to extend the term of leasehold estates, to change the definition of persons of the Northern Marianas Descent, and to change the definition of corporations permitting minority interests by persons not of Northern Marianas Descent.”
-Senate Legislative Initiative 17-10: “To propose a constitutional amendment for the people of the Northern Mariana Islands to vote to continue, or repeal, Article XII.”
Written comments may be submitted to the office of Sen. Ralph Dlg. Torres on Capital Hill, Saipan, prior to the public hearing. Oral testimony may be presented during the public hearing. If you wish to present oral testimony, inform Torres’ office not later than 24 hours prior to the public hearing.
