Igitol joins Oceania baseball elite group

Saipan Major League’s Rose Igitol has been selected as member of the Baseball Confederation of Oceania Executive Committee.
“On behalf of the BCO Executive Committee and its members, I would like to confirm your appointment to the BCO Executive Committee to the position of executive member. Congratulations and welcome,” BCO secretary general Chet Gray said in a letter sent to Igitol yesterday.
Igitol’s appointment was effective starting June 22 and the local sports official is honored with the selection.
“It is a great honor to be elected to the BCO Executive Committee,” Igitol said in an email to Saipan Tribune yesterday.
She added that BCO is responsible in coordinating, encouraging, organizing, assisting, and promoting baseball in the region and is recognized by the International Baseball Association (IBAF).
“Executive members are tasked in overseeing BCO activities and ensuring that their objectives and policies are adhered to. Being a member will enable me to have first-hand information on educational programs available for coaches, umpires, and administrators, as well as, clinics, tournaments, and championships for our players,” Igitol explained.
The SML official thanked the committee for their vote of confidence and Guam Baseball Federation’s Robert Steffy, who nominated her.
“With 22 years of baseball administration under my belt, I feel I can represent the people of the CNMI and the north well and carry out the mandates of this organization,” she said.
BCO is the governing body of baseball in the Oceania region and has 13 other member-nations besides the CNMI. The list also includes Guam, American Samoa, Cook Islands, the Federates States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Fiji, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Palau, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and Samoa.
