The Saipan Major League Baseball Association and the CNMI National Baseball Team are putting on multiple fundraising events from now through August to help defray costs for Team CNMI’s participation in the upcoming 2011 Pacific Games in Noumea, New Caledonia.

SMLBA is organizing a softball tournament from July 22 to July 24 at the Capitol Hill Ballfield. The entry fee to participate is $150 and is payable to SMLBA.

The tournament will utilize a double-elimination format. Cash and in-kind prizes will be awarded to the Top 2 finishers.

A homerun derby will also be held during the event, where a separate cash prize will go to the winner.

“The SMLBA and the CNMI national baseball team are encouraging all baseball and softball enthusiasts to support this worthy fundraising cause. Your support and generosity will be greatly appreciated,” said SML president Tony Rogolifoi.

Rogolifoi also welcomed any help from local businesses who would like to help sponsor the team.

Team CNMI will also be selling hot lunches for $5 per plate on July 15 and July 29 at Capitol Hill Ballfield.

CNMI all-star players are also selling raffle tickets to help raise additional funding. The raffle drawing will take place sometime in mid-August; in-kind prizes will be awarded to multiple winners.

In addition, an organizational meeting for Team CNMI will be held on July 20, 6:30pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium pavilion. All interested are invited to attend.

The 2011 Pacific Games in Noumea will be held from Aug. 27 to Sept. 10, 2011.
