A Department of Public Safety employee who reportedly refused to undergo a lie detector test as part of investigation into the disappearance of sisters Faloma and Maleina Luhk is somehow “related” to the missing girls, Saipan Tribune learned from sources yesterday.

This developed as DPS Commissioner Ramon Mafnas stated that obviously they know the Luhk sisters “did not disappear into thin air.”

Sources said this DPS personnel is on leave and possibly submitted his resignation.

DPS acting spokesman Jason Tarkong refused to comment when asked about the status of this personnel.

DPS has refused to confirm or deny if this personnel is among those on the investigators’ list of persons of interest in the case.

Mafnas said they know that someone took the girls and that they believe the children may have known the individual or individuals involved.

“I don’t believe two children ages 9 and 10 would walk away with total stranger without a scream or holler,” Mafnas said.

The commissioner said they still don’t know if the children really got into a car.

“We don’t have any knowledge. We are looking at every angle, any kind of scenario that maybe took place that date,” he said.

With respect to statements of witnesses, Mafnas said they don’t take the word of anybody at face value.

“We look into it to ensure that what they are telling us is correct. And that’s standard investigative process,” he said.

The search for the Luhk sisters is now entering its sixth week despite a $50,000 cash reward put up for information on their whereabouts.
