Lions Club donates 65 eyeglasses to man’amko
The Saipan Fil-Am Lions Club, together with the Saipan Marianas and Saipan Unity Lions Clubs, donated 65 brand new prescription reading and sun glasses to the congregates at the Aging Center.
Officers of the three Lions Clubs presented the donation to the Saipan Seniors Advisory Council members on Wednesday.
Saipan Marianas Lions Club president Paul Madriaga said the donation is part of the Lions Clubs’ community service projects to provide assistance to individuals who are visually impaired, particularly the elderly and the children.
Lions Club International is the world’s largest service club organization with more than 1.3 million members around the world.
“Lions are known as the ambassadors of the blind in the United States,” he told Saipan Tribune. “Donating glasses is among our priorities to help the community.”
Saipan Fil-Am Lions Club president Mario Mayuga disclosed that they plan to make this kind of donation regularly. “We believe that these prescription glasses will be a big help for our man’amko,” he added.
Acting Aging director Walter Manglona expressed his appreciation to the Lions Clubs for their donation. “We want to thank them for donating all these glasses. We are always thankful to all organizations [that] help the man’amko,” he said.
Aside from donating prescription glasses to various groups, Mayuga said Lions Clubs also provide assistance to those with vision problems through its participation in community events such as health fairs.
Last year, six Lions Clubs collaborated to host a successful health fair.
“If you are interested to serve the community, join the Lions and feel the reward of serving others,” said Madriaga.
