An 18-year-old student from Kagman High School was recognized for her superior academic achievement and was accepted to the National Society of High School Scholars.

Keanna Lynn Ada Villagomez graduated from high school last month. She is the daughter of NMASA Sports Hall of Famer Michael and Erlinda Villagomez and will pursue a liberal arts program at Northern Marianas College.

Claes Nobel, chairman and founder of the society, announced Villagomez’s recognition this week.

Villagomez described the national recognition as a great honor. “I hope this will motivate me to become more successful in the future.”

Villagomez is a consistent honor student since her elementary school. She was among the recipients of the prestigious president’s excellence awards and most outstanding student for science during her graduation. Villagomez was also the 2011 class secretary and vice president of her school’s National Honor Society.

The NSHSS recognizes top scholars and invites only those students who have achieved academic excellence in their high school. Membership to the organization entitles qualified students to enjoy a variety of benefits including scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, free events, member-only resources, and many others.

NHSS was formed in 2002 and has more than 530,000 society members in over 160 countries. It provides scholarship opportunities for deserving young people.
