IT&E Voyagers and Best Choice had different endings to their season, but that didn’t prevent the two teams from finishing atop their respective divisions in the Saipan Billiards Association’s Budweiser Open 8-Ball League regular season

IT&E Voyagers walked away with a 7-0 shutout win at home at Jonny’s Bar & Grill over Wild Bill’s Bar & Grill’s Shark Attack (48-78) last Tuesday night.

The victory against the Obyan Division allowed IT&E Voyagers to finish the season atop the four-member Agingan Division with a league-best 92-34 win-loss record.

Obyan Division runner-up Fotten Palau, meanwhile, upset frontrunner Best Choice of D’Pirates Bar & Grill, 4-3, at home at USSP Peleliu.

Best Choice’s late falter, however, still gave the team the top seed with its overall card of 60-66. Fotten Palau improved its slate to 53-73.

In other games, IT&E Incredibles stamped out D-Pirates’ Pirates (33-93), 6-1, on the road and finished second place in the Agingan standings at 87-39. Utopia Sports Bar’s Docomo Hustlers finished a game behind in third thanks to the free seven points it received via a no-show by Obyan’s USSP Turtles (41-85).

Jonny’s Home Boyz (85-41) settled for fourth place, despite manhandling a two-person Obyan X-Tream (45-81) crew, 7-0, at VFW Post 3457.

Home Boyz’s Mario Diola sank the 8-ball off the break twice this year, while IT&E Voyagers’ Rolly Villanueva ran the table a league-best eight times.

Obyan’s George Lizardo of X-Tream also sunk the 8-ball off the break twice, while teammate Chester Cuento ran the rack a division-best three times.

The SBA Budweiser Cup tournament kicks off next Tuesday for both divisions.

The Agingan semifinals take place at Jonny’s between IT&E Voyagers and sister team IT&E Incredibles, while the Home Boyz take on the Docomo Hustlers.

In Obyan play, Best Choice challenges Fotten Palau at USSP Club, while Shark Attack battles X-tream at VFW.

In addition, the regular season awards banquet takes place this Sunday in Charley’s Cabaret at Pacific Islands Club.

League organizers are currently accepting sign-ups for the upcoming Summer/Fall season; the deadline to register is Aug. 9.
