Woman pleads guilty to bringing in six Chinese to work on Saipan

A woman who was indicted with another for recruiting six persons in China to come to the CNMI with promises of jobs here while pretending to be tourists pleaded guilty in federal court yesterday.

The 25-year-old Honglian Cheng pleaded guilty to a count of foreign labor contracting fraud conspiracy as part of a plea bargain. She will be sentenced on Sept. 15, 2011 at 10am. Her lawyer is Colin Thompson.

Cheng and Li Hua had been charged with foreign labor contracting fraud conspiracy, six counts of foreign labor contracting fraud, one count of alien smuggling conspiracy, six counts of alien smuggling, and three counts of importation of alien for prostitution.

Cheng was allegedly responsible for bringing to Saipan six persons who were recruited in China, while Hua was the one who recruited them in China.

The six—Zhongjun Yu, Cuilan Ma, Chungping Li, Lifei Bian, Shoujun Yin, and Zhipeng Ren—were arrested and have all pleaded guilty in federal court to improper entry. They are now undergoing deportation process.
