Damaged signpost outrages Dandan watchers
Dandan Neighborhood Watch block captain Frank Camacho expressed “disappointment and outrage” upon discovering that one of their small signposts had been damaged.
The signpost, which was erected in September 2010, now sports a big hole, like “somebody deliberately did that,” said Camacho.
Camacho said they have three small signposts at each of the entry points to Dandan that cost them about $700.
He said there are two bigger signages that are placed conspicuously in the village to encourage better participation in the Village Neighborhood Watch Task Force.
Camacho disclosed that they discovered the damage on the signpost about two to three weeks ago.
“The team that’s been cleaning around our village is disappointed that somebody did something like that. I’m actually more outraged than disappointed,” he told Saipan Tribune.
Camacho said that someone used a heavy object, most likely made of metal, to create the big hole on the signpost.
“Who would do such a thing and what can they get from doing it?” he asked.
Camacho believes that people who would do that are not educated enough and do not realize that they are creating a problem instead of helping the task force.
He said he did not report the incident but hopes that they would catch the perpetrator in the act.
“The task force is created for residents to be watchful of wrong things being done in the village but we can’t monitor it all the time. If we catch the one who did this, we’ll have him prosecuted because that’s damaging public property,” said Camacho.
He urged those who have information on who did the damage on the signpost to come out and report the person/s involved.
