Rotary installs new officers for 2011-2012
Saipan Rotary Club president Pete Igitol and the rest of the officers and directors for 2011 to 2012 were installed in a ceremony held at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Tuesday evening.
The other officers are Pete Schilling, vice president; Laila Boyer, secretary; Yosh Gabaldon, treasurer; Richard Cody, Community Service director; Jay Santos, Club Service director; Kelley Butcher, Vocational Service director; Glen Perez, International Service director; Jeff Boyer, New Generation Service director; Kim Forrester, Foundation Service director; and Wayne Gillespie, sergeant-at-arms.
After the swearing in officiated by associate judge Perry Inos, past president Glen Perez officially passed the gavel to Igitol.
Igitol, in his remarks, challenged all Rotarians to continue their “humanitarian and charitable efforts” in the Commonwealth despite all the challenges that lie ahead for the organization.
Igitol, who has been with the Saipan Rotary Club since its inception, said the club will continue to sponsor and support its various projects, which include the Parade of Books, the Third Grade Dictionary project, the man’amko, and the 20th Annual Rotary Youth Basketball League.
He said the Saipan Rotary Club will also take on new endeavors that focus on the youth in the community through a youth-oriented project such as an apprenticeship program.
Citizen of the YearIgitol and past president Perez also presented the Citizen of the Year award to Rocball founder James W. Feger, who attended the ceremony with his wife Barbara.
Rocball, the islands’ only indigenous sport, was created by Feger in 1979 and copyrighted a few years after.
“I’m very honored and proud,” he told Saipan Tribune. “I thank the Saipan Rotary Club for this recognition. I dedicate this to all Rocball players on island. This award is as much to them as it is for me.”
A plaque of appreciation was also presented to Perez.
