Chamolinian softball league finals tonight
Four teams will go for all the marbles tonight, as the 2nd Budweiser Chamolinian Softball Association Slow-pitch League holds two championship matches at the Capital Hill Ballfield.
In the first title game at 6:30pm, Man Amigos will take on Natibu in the men’s division. Man Amigos have the twice-to-beat advantage in the finals after winning their first two games in the double-elimination playoffs.
The third-seeded Man Amigos first dueled the six-ranked G-Ballers on June 7 and won. Then on June 9, Man Amigos were pitted against the second-seeded Phat Boyz and pulled off an upset to arrange a winner’s bracket semis duel against Natibu.
Natibu took the league’s pennant and was seeded first in the upper half of the eight-team playoffs. It easily past the last-ranked Berdax and then thumped the fifth-placed Your Balls in the quarterfinals. In the semis, Natibu bowed to Man Amigos, dropping the former to the loser’s bracket.
Natibu went on to force a rematch against Man Amigos after surviving Phat Boyz in the last semis match. A win in Game 1 in the finals tonight will allow Natibu to extend the title duel to a deciding Game 2 at 8:30pm.
In the women’s division it will be Check It out versus Sakudi with the latter holding a twice-to-beat edge in the finals.
Sakudi won the women’s pennant and drew a bye in the first round of the double-elimination playoffs. Sakudi then defeated Proa, which downed T&C Clan in the opening round, to advance to the semis against Check It Out, which prevailed against Enamo Meta.
In the winner’s bracket semis, Sakudi triumphed, while Check It Out fell to the loser’s bracket and faced Enamo Meta. Check It Out prevailed in the must-win playoff to earn a second crack at Sakudi.
Game 1 of the women’s finals is set for 7:30pm. Game 2, if necessary, will be played at 9:30pm. Awards ceremony and banquet will take place once the two title showdowns are completed.
