Jerry Soriano ruled the weekly VFW Post 3457 9-Ball Tournament held last Saturday at the VFW Post 3457.

He went unbeaten in four games to top the weekly competition and qualified for the VFW Battle of Champions. Soriano, who drew a bye in the opening round, was first pitted against Erwin Gomez and won. Soriano’s next foe was Mark Butac and he prevailed anew to set up a semis duel against Patrick Cepeda. Another win moved Soriano to the finals, while the defeat dropped Cepeda to the loser’s bracket.

In the loser’s bracket, Butac downed Eugene Borja, while Bryan Neves edged Gomez to keep his hopes alive. Butac and Neves faced off for the right to challenge Cepeda for the last finals berth. Butac went on to win the do-or-die game, but was later booted out of the competition after bowing to Cepeda in the loser’s bracket semis.

Cepeda advanced and forced a rematch against Soriano, but still fell short, allowing the latter to top the weekly tournament and pocket $50. Cepeda settled for $35, while Butac and Neves went home with $15, and $10, respectively.

VFW Post 3457 hosts the 9-ball competition every Saturday with the weekly winners eventually slugging in out in the Battle of the Champions after 16 weeks.
