A ‘real’ history lesson

In response to “Mayer, Arizona, Short History Lesson” I have this to say: First, thank you very much for reading and responding to my article. We really appreciate any feedback on an issue so grave to our people. However, I’ve been unable to find any literature that supports your contention that Germany withdrew from our islands because they were losing World War I, and that after the war we were simply abandoned.

History books say this: After World War I the League of Nations stripped Germany of all its possessions outside of Germany and gave administrative control of our islands to the Japanese. Prior to World War II Japan withdrew from the League of Nations, and after the war the United Nations, which replaced the League of Nations, gave that control over our islands to the United States of America. A similar scenario like I stated in my article.

I teach history, the history of our islands, and I have tried to be as responsible and accurate as possible, because “truth” is the only weapon we have left. Neither myself, nor anyone I’m involved with is going to jeopardize this and leave ourselves open to criticism based on our facts alone.

A Covenant is like a treaty in some respects, and you shouldn’t be that surprised that the United States has chosen to not honor that agreement, after all. How many treaties do you think the United States entered into with Native Americans and then honored these agreements later?

As far as worrying about who comes next, the only thing that makes our islands unattractive to huge foreign investment is the United States. If the U.S. left today investors would be lined up at our doorsteps. Compare that to going out of your house everyday seeing this immense low-income housing development, what we used to refer to as “projects,” going up around us.

A lot of people around here are unhappy with a mindset that has nothing on the table for our economic recovery, but has chosen to prepare us for a burgeoning welfare state they’ve forced upon us. I know it’s going to be hard to feel us from Arizona so here’s an invitation. My History classes start back up again next month, please take some time to visit our islands and you can sit in on my classes free of charge. It’s the only way you’re ever going to understand us.
