ToC proceeds at work in Dandan, Susupe, Chalan Piao
For the past 15 years, over 200 golfers have competed for exciting cash and prizes and a chance to be named the Marianas best golfer. While the trophies change hands yearly, there is always one winner—the Saipan Beautification Fund. At a time where budgets are tight and Saipan needs to maintain and improve our tourism assets, this fund is vital in order to keep our island beautiful.
This year, over $16,000 in TOC proceeds were used to improve the median strips in Dandan between the Shell Dandan gas station and San Vicente church, in Susupe on the road between Saipan World Resort and Joeten Shopping Center, as well as the median strip near the Mobil gas station in Chalan Piao.
“TOC is proud of the work we have done in maintaining the beautiful island atmosphere that has made Saipan popular with tourists,” said Ben Babauta, tournament director for TOC. “The Saipan Beautification Fund proceeds make these projects that would not otherwise have funding, possible. We are proud to work with MVA and our other government partners to continue to make a positive difference.”
The Tournament of Champions is an annual tournament which started in 1996 with proceeds going into the Saipan Beautification Fund. The funds are used to promote our visitor industry by enhancing our destination landscaping and other highly visible destination features. Proceeds have recently been used for the continued maintenance of traffic medians from Chalan Piao to Marpi and the Port to Park Pathway. In the past, the fund has been used for the revitalization of the Garapan special district, the enhanced beautification of the Paseo de Marianas and other beautification projects.
This year’s tournament is on Aug. 6 and 7. For more information, or to register to play, please visit the TOC website at www.tocsaiopan.com. If you are interested in being a sponsor for this worthwhile event, contact Jim Arenovski at 287-7037. (ToC)
