I send this letter in reply to Mr Garry Evilsizer. You Mr. Evilsizer are mistaken and lacking full details (education) about the history of the CNMI. You were 300 years in slavery to the Spanish who controlled you using the church to control your people. After the Spanish-American war the Germans were given authority to administer control of the islands. When Germany was losing World War I, all of their military was called home. Your islands were left with no one to protect them!

Japan was never authorized to exercise control of the islands—they just moved in and took over—making people slaves once again. After they had taken control of all of the Pacific islands and China—they made the attack on Pearl Harbor—starting World War II. As most people know America ended World War II by dropping atom bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima which were the cities where Japan had all of its war materials factories. When the factories were destroyed Japan could not continue the fight and the war ended. Enough history for now.

America did not colonize the CNMI. The chosen leaders of the Chamorros negotiated the agreement that made the CNMI a commonwealth. The people of the CNMI voted to approve their new government. The people of Puerto Rico did the same thing and they too became a commonwealth. They have the same rights and restrictions as the CNMI. Hawaii and Alaska chose to become states and as a result they have the same rights as all other US states. Cuba and other islands of the Pacific chose other forms of government.

Before you sink your boat—better look around—there are others who would love to take over the CNMI again! Remember—Cuba lost its first government when the communists took over!
