Star-studded 2011 Pistang Pinoy draws hundreds
The Civic Center in Susupe was transformed into a festive fairground last Sunday when Filipinos on Saipan gathered to commemorate Philippine Independence Day through the 2011 Pistang Pinoy.
Hundreds of Filipinos were joined by other community members in a whole day of fun and activities during the annual event organized by the United Filipino Organization.
About 20 food and merchandise vendors set up booths at the event. Various activities such as the 3-on-3 basketball game, raffle draw, trivia contest, drawing contest, and other games were also held during the event.
Entertainment for the crowd was provided by various performers, including the Umang Glee Club, Gloria Dei Choir, Nikki Canape, Erica Faye Tubera, Rose Dance Studio, Prinze the Magician, Bayani Association Dance Group, The Chocolate Factory, Uncle Ben’s Dream Academy Stars, Green Meadow School Dance Crew, Playmates, Cornerstone Performing Arts Group, New Generation Dancers, Hi-Pitch Band, and Kids Legacy.
Filipino singer Geneva Cruz and the Guam-based The Retrospect band also showed up at the event to the delight of the audience who had their cameras ready to take snapshots of the guest artists.
In an interview, UFO president Bong Malasarte said he was very pleased about the event’s turnout. “A lot of people came and made it a very successful event,” he told Saipan Tribune.
Malasarte thanked all organization officers and members and sponsors who volunteered and donated cash and in-kind “despite the tough economy.”
