Alana Takasi and Alisha Shrestha were named this year’s top graduates of Tinian High School, emerging as class valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, during the institution’s commencement exercises Wednesday night.

Takasi was awarded the prestigious Board of Education award while Shrestha was bestowed the Commissioner of Education honor.

Takasi, the daughter of Mario and Brigette Alo, has been accepted to the U.S. Air Force and will be leaving on Nov. 1 for this new journey in her life.

A consistent honor student since grade school, Takasi, however, never expected to be at the top of her class.

“I just always did my best and it feels really good when your hard work are recognized,” she told Saipan Tribune. She gave credit to her parents for all the encouragement and support they’ve extended to her throughout the years.

Alisha Shrestha, this year’s salutatorian, is the daughter of Renei Ann and Kedar Shrestha. The 19-year-old has also decided to join the U.S. Air Force and will be taking the physical examination on June 28. She told Saipan Tribune it is a great feeling when hard work finally pays off.

This year’s Governor’s Award went to William Manglona while the Leadership Award was bestowed on Chelsie Manglona.

The prestigious Top 10 list included Takasi, Shrestha, Jaehoon Shin, Jamila Cruz, Raybrent Iglecias, Laraine Manimtim, Jimuel Cabay, Ivy Pangelinan, William Manglona, and Jennifer Uy.

Tinian High School principal Julian Hofschneider, along with education officials, presented diplomas to 50 high school students during Wednesday night’s ceremonies attended by the families and friends of the graduates.
