Marianas High School student Salvi Diomar C. Villanueva has been accepted to the National Society of High School Scholars for his superior academic achievements.

The 16-year-old is the son of Donald and Malou Villanueva.

He is currently a member of the National Honor Society and president of the Video Production Club of his school. Besides his consistent academic participations, Villanueva is also an active member of the community and sports clubs. He is also the captain of his school’s soccer team.

During the regional thespian competitions on island, Villanueva was named gold medal awardee in film category and who will represent the CNMI in the International Thespian Society festival in Lincoln, Nebraska. He is scheduled to leave for the national contest tomorrow.

Saipan Tribune learned that the student was a consistent honor since his elementary years. When he was in Hopwood Junior High School, he was named the class first honorable mention and recipient of other special awards and recognitions including outstanding academic excellence award and advanced reader award.

When he was in ninth grade, Villanueva was adjudged his class principal’s awardee while named honor’s list awardee in his 10th grade. This year, he recently received principal’s award in his class.

Villanueva was also the winner of the Bank of Guam’s 2011 Calendar Photography Competition this year.

Since 2009, the 16-year-old was also bestowed numerous recognitions and awards in various video and film production contests.

“On behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment that Salvi Diomar has demonstrated to achieve this level of academic excellence. He is now a member of a unique community of scholars—a community that represents our very best hope for the future,” said the society’s founder and chair Claes Nobel.

Membership in the society of scholars entitles qualified students to enjoy a wide variety of benefits including scholarship opportunities, academic competitions, free events, and others.

Formed in 2002, NSHSS recognizes academic excellence at the high school level and encourage members to apply their unique talents, vision, and potential for the betterment of themselves and the world.
