Barcinas replaces Mesngon as Buck Battalion commander
Cadet Lt. Col. Ezra A. Barcinas replaced Cadet Lt. Col. Blaine Sn. Mesngon as Buck Battalion commander during a change of command ceremony last June 3 at the Rota High School Gymnasium.
Cadet Major Jennylyn Dela Cruz served as the commander of cadets during the ceremony, which honored the accomplishments of the outgoing battalion commander as well as paid tribute to the men and women serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
The bi-annual event was witnessed by the entire RHS faculty and student body. Antenille M. Santos, who is an alumnus of RHS and a former Buck Battalion commander, was the inspirational speaker and RHS principal Sharlene Manglona gave the opening remarks.
CNMI PTSA Advisory Council vice president Edita Taimanao, RHS PTA president Therese Hizon, and Marla Barcinas, RHS PTA vice president, Lt. Col. Robert Gay, Phil Quitugua from the multi-school unit headquarters, and the cadets’ parents and family members also attended the event.
The new chain of command will be challenged with a new mission at the end of this month. They have been aggressively planning, organizing, and coordinating the training sites for the CNMI Multiple School Unit (MSU) JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC) on Rota. Training will include 150 cadets from all five high schools who will participate in various leadership positions and team building activities.
The Buck Battalion also expressed its appreciation to Gay, PSS MSU JROTC Director of Army Instructions, for selecting Rota as the training site from June 17 to 23.
Additionally, the battalion would like to extend its gratitude to Commissioner of Education Dr. Rita Sablan for supporting the annual event, Rota Mayor Melchor Mendiola for providing site support, and Dr. Rita Inos Junior High School principal Maria S. Quitugua for the use of the campus as the campsite.
The Buck Battalion is anxiously awaiting the arrival of their cadet counterparts which will invariably result in the development of new skills and inter-island collaboration in numerous training events under a field environment. (PR)
