Bayani donates care packages
A Filipino organization gave away care packages as Christmas presents to disadvantaged families last Dec. 23.
The Bayani Association, which is a sub-group under the United Filipino Organization, partnered with the Jesus Saves Pentecostal Church in Laguna, the Philippines to distribute the care package, which included ingredients for spaghetti, canned goods, and children’s toys.
“Christmas is a time for giving and sharing. Seeing the smiles of kids means a lot to us. Thanks to all the members for their generosity,” said Bayani past president Leonila Mendoza.
The organization also thanked its volunteers who helped with the distribution: pastor Chito and Lhiza Corral, pastor Elmer and Alice Suelto, pastor Ean and Sheryll Gutierrez, Rose and Hannah Lucillo, Joseph Lucillo, Freddie and Vene Buen, Louie Susana, and Jhun and May Corral.
“Special thanks [go] to Ms. Anna Mercado who coordinated with the group in the Philippines to help with the donation,” said Bayani president Annamae Adaza.
The association has been distributing care packages since last year to families in need in the CNMI and the Philippines. Last May 6, the association gave away 20-lb bags of rice each to 75 beneficiaries to help meet the increasing need for food as the COVID-19 pandemic drags on.
Mendoza, who was Bayani’s president at the time, encouraged other organizations to also extend a helping hand to people in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. “We want to entice others to do the same, if they can extend any help possible for people who are in need,” she said.
