The Saipan Baseball League season is slated to begin in March 2023, with a meeting discussing the season scheduled for Jan. 18 at the Northern Marianas Sports Association conference room at 6pm inside the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

SBL president Jay Santos is calling all prospective team managers and coaches to discuss those interested in participating, planning, and scheduling of the season.

Baseball on Saipan was first put to a standstill after the onslaught of Super Typhoon Yutu in 2018 destroyed the Francisco “Tan Ko” M. Palacios Baseball Field. Then, the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 prolonged the cancellation of competition to four years.

The last SBL championship team went to the Chalan Kanoa Bears in 2018 after their Game 1 win against Go See Mark. They were unable to complete their best-of-five championship series after Yutu hit.

The Tan Ko Baseball Field was finally repaired just in the nick of time for the Northern Marianas Pacific Mini Games 2022 last June, with the NMI National Baseball Team striking gold after defeating rival team Guam in the championship game.

After the Mini Games, the CNMI U18 Junior National Baseball Team utilized the Tan Ko Baseball Field for their practices. They were scheduled to play in the World Baseball Softball Confederation Oceania qualifying tournament from Dec. 12 to 15 but it was canceled.
