Bar association donates $7.5K to MLSC
The CNMI Bar Association on Friday presented the Micronesian Legal Services Corp. with a donation in the amount of $7,530. Beginning in 2008, when former Bar president Maya B. Kara started the tradition, the Bar Association has made a substantial annual donation to the MLSC in order to support the provision of much needed indigent legal services here in the CNMI.
Bar president Sean E. Frink stated that: The CNMI Bar Association very much appreciates the valuable service that the attorneys and staff at MLSC provide to our community. While almost all of the members of the private Bar voluntarily provide pro bono (for free) legal services to deserving members of our community, we realize that there is a much greater need out there than we can possibly provide and that the work that MLSC does plays a large and valuable role in our community. The indigent require access to free legal advice so that they can have meaningful access to the justice system. Without justice for the indigent how can our country’s promise of “Justice for all” be upheld? Justice for all is something that we all believe in but our society has fallen woefully short in actually delivering the services necessary to make this promise a reality. This check represents a small token of the Bar membership’s appreciation for what the people at MLSC do every day. Thank you MLSC, what you do is very much appreciated.”
