The Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands’ fundraising basketball tournament for the 2014 Micronesian Games will kick off today at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The fundraiser, which is for the CNMI men’s and women’s teams competing in the Micro Games next month in Pohnpei, will have two divisions—the men’s and co-ed.

The CNMI Men’s National Team will battle the Anderson Bombers, Hoops, I Love Saipan, Blue Haus, and Mariana Resort in the men’s division, while the co-ed field has the CNMI Women’s Nationals, MHS Freshmen, Junior Nationals, and the Rollers.

The CNMI Women’s Nationals and the MHS Freshen will play in today’s first game at 5pm, while the second match at 7pm will have Mariana Resort challenging the Hoops. In the final game tonight at 8:30pm, I Love Saipan will take on Blue Haus.

Games in the fundraiser will run throughout this weekend with the finals in both divisions set for 9am and 11am this Sunday.
The tournament will charge a spectator fee of $1 and there will be raffle drawings, 3-point contest, half court shot for spectators, and lots of other giveaways. Around $3,000 worth of raffle prizes are at stake in the four-day tournament.

“The future of CNMI basketball seeks your assistance and support so that we may have the greatest opportunity to represent the CNMI with pride,” BANMI said in a press statement.
