Bands wanted for Hafa Adai & Tirow Summer Jam
The Hafa Adai & Tirow Summer Jam on July 31, 2021, on Saipan, is inviting all bands in the Marianas to sign up for the Battle of Bands.
The event, organized by the Marianas Visitors Authority, will highlight the importance of tourism for the Marianas and celebrates the commencement of international flights.
“We’re expecting a strong turnout at the Hafa Adai & Tirow Summer Jam and would love to see more bands showcase their talent for the Battle of the Bands,” said MVA Community Projects manager Martin Duenas. “There are great cash prizes for the winners and more importantly, it’s going to be an exciting event to celebrate the resumption of tourism in our community.”
Prizes are $1,000 for first place, $750 for second place, and $500 for third place. A $150 cash consolidation prize will be awarded to non-winning bands.
Voting will be based on a combination of audience and judges votes. All music genres are welcome and each band will receive a 15-minute set to perform. Set times will be strictly enforced with points lost for exceeding 15 minutes. All bands must use sound and light engineers hired by the MVA. The MVA will provide a 5-piece drum kit, three cymbals’ stands, hi-hat stand, snare drum with stand, single bass drum pedal, mics, and mic cables. Bands should provide cymbals, hi-hat cymbals, throne, sticks, double bass pedal (if required), guitars, amps, DI boxes, and anything else the band needs. Use of the provided drum kit will be mandatory. Bands members must be at least 18 years old. Additional rules may apply.
The Battle of the Bands will begin at 7pm. All confirmed bands must attend a briefing on July 27, 2021, at 2pm at the MVA office in San Jose, Saipan. The briefing will include a review of the rules and a blind draw for the lineup.
The Hafa Adai & Tirow Summer Jam is scheduled from 3pm to 10pm at Guma Sakman across the Marianas High School in Susupe and will feature a variety of cuisine and live entertainment. Entry is free.
COVID-19 protocols will be strictly followed at the event, which is anticipated to also include a vaccination booth.
