Ball Crushers, Danny’s Bad Boyz on top

The Ball Crushers and Danny’s Bad Boyz earned unbeaten records after two days of competition in the 2017 VolleyTime Tournament at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

The Ball Crushers posted a 2-0 record in the early stage of the tournament aimed at raising funds for the Ol’Aces Sports Club. The Jonas Barcinas-led Ball Crushers is in Pool A of the men’s division and registered its first win last Sunday against the Blue Dragons. Then last Monday, the Ball Crushers was pitted against Set It & 4Get It and also prevailed to get the early lead in pool.

Dannny’s Bad Boyz is also in Pool B and got its debut win against Set It & 4Get It last Sunday before topping the Blue Dragons last Monday. Danny’s Bad Boyz and the Ball Crushers were set to battle Set It & 4Get It again yesterday, while the former dueled the Ball Crushers last Tuesday and results of both matches were unavailable at press time.

In Pool B, there are only three teams with Have Mercy and Aces both beating the Ol’Aces in the first two days of the competition, which has a single-elimination format after the pool play. The playoffs will start tonight, while the championship match will be held this Friday.

Meanwhile, in the women’s division, All Stars and 1/2 and Goal Diggers are ahead of their respective pools after the first two playing days.

All Stars and 1/2 held a 2-0 mark following its victory over Swerve Up and That’s What She Set in Pool A last Sunday and Monday, respectively. Mix Blood is also in Pool A and improved to a 1-1 record after beating Swerve Up last Monday. What She Set shared Mix Blood’s 1-1 mark after downing the latter in last Sunday’s game. In Pool B, Goal Diggers crushed both Team Lapta and Team Tomoko.

The women’s division contest also has a single-elimination format after the pool play and preliminary matches continued last Tuesday and Wednesday, while the playoff round will begin tonight and the finals is set at 6pm before the 7pm title game in the men’s category.
