Back-to-school donations sought
Pride Marianas Youth is holding a back-to-school drive to collect school items and even used clothes that would be given to middle and high school students.
The drive, which started in late August, will run the entire month of September, and calls on the community to donate items like backpacks, re-useable water bottles, hygiene supplies, notebooks, and gently used clothing, shoes, and socks.
“The community can help by making donations from the school supplies list we put together…and help us spread the message about the drive,” said PMY’s Jennifer Maratita.
Donations can be dropped off at the Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence office on the second floor of the MH-1 Building in Puerto Rico and at The Shack in Oleai.
PMY will also have a booth at the Youth Mental Health Fairs, to raise awareness and to reach out to the LGBTQ+ youth. The fairs will run on Saipan throughout September, and in October on Rota and Tinian.
“We will pass out the school supplies at the mental health fairs for students who visit our booth and who may be willing to sign the Ally Pledge banner, a peer support effort to curb bullying of our youth,” Maratita added.
The items will be given to counseling offices to give to students as they request for them.
