Babauta rules CWGA August tourney

Lorraine Babauta is the latest qualifier to the CNMI Women’s Golf Association’s yearend tournament after topping the club’s August ace last Saturday, Aug. 21, at the east course of the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort in Kagman.
Babauta finished with a net 72 after shooting identical 44s in the front and back nines for a gross score of 88. Minus her 16 handicap, she came away with the winning net score of the day.
Mio Kim settled for runner-up honors for the August tourney after she finished a stroke back of Babauta with a net score of 73. She fired a 46 in the front nine before finishing her day with a 43 in the back nine for a gross score of 89, which minus her 16 handicap, gave her the 73.
She actually finished tied with Eun Ae Jang who completed the Top 3 for this month’s tournament after the latter came away with also net score of 73. Kim, however, beat her in a scorecard tiebreak to win second place. The 19-handicapper Jang started her round with a 43 in the first nine holes before retiring to the clubhouse with a 49 in the back for a gross score of 92.

A total of 11 women took part in CWGA’s August tournament. The rest of the players, with their net scores in parenthesis, are as follows: Jeong Si Yu (74); Sunny Son (74); Sherlyn Jones (75); Terry Guerrero (77); Kyunga Park (80); Yuko Togawa (81); Ean Ae Chang (84); and Sae Hee Kim (87).
