Independent gubernatorial candidate Juan N. Babauta is currently in the U.S. mainland for a five-stop campaign sortie for the Nov. 6 general election.
Babauta, who is with his wife Charlene and Sen. Paul A. Manglona (Ind-Rota), made the first stop in Union City last Sunday, where he met hundreds of people at Tomi’s Seafood Buffet.
Babauta’s running mate, Dr. Rita A. Sablan, did not join the campaign.
Vince Pangelinan, the social media chairman for the Babauta-Sablan team, said yesterday that Sablan has been doing house-to-house campaigns on Saipan and Tinian.
After meeting with 326 people in Union City, California, Babauta proceeded to San Diego, California last Tuesday, where he had a get-together with the people at Natsumi Restaurant.
Babauta will meet people at Adobo Restaurant along Washington Square Road in Tigard, Oregon tomorrow, Saturday. He will then go Washington State on Sunday for a gathering at a residence.
Babauta’s last stop will be at a restaurant in Boise, Idaho on Monday, Aug. 27.
Pangelinan said the former governor is happy with the good reception he has gotten from people in the U.S. mainland.
Lucille Camacho Hilario, organizer of Babauta’s NorCal visit, said there were 326 people altogether at the gathering in Union City.
Hilario said some CNMI voters drove from as far as Eureka, California, which is 4 1/2 hours away from Tomi’s Seafood Buffet.
“We were overwhelmed to see how much CNMI people care about what’s happening in our home,” she said.
Hilario said they extended the event in Union City for one hour and 35 minutes as the people wanted to spend more time.
“Even after almost two hours, we continued discussion outside [the restaurant],” she said.
To their delight, Hilario said, the Filipino community around California also came to attend.
