Bartenders to showcase talents at Taste

Bartenders from various hotels and restaurants will be showcasing their skills in the Bartender Cocktail Competition this Saturday at the 2009 Taste of the Marianas Food Festival and Beer Garden at the American Memorial Park.
The competition, dubbed “Burnett’s Vodka Challenge,” will start at 7pm.
Judging criteria include showmanship (35 percent), taste (30 percent), originality (20 percent), audience impact (10 percent), and neatness (5 percent).
The champion will receive $75 cash, trophy and cellular phone. The first runner-up will get $50 and a trophy; second runner-up, $25 and trophy; and third runner-up, trophy.
All winners will also receive gifts from DFS Galleria and certificates and medals.
There will also be a special award for the Best in Showmanship and Taste, who will earn $25 and gifts from DFS.
A trophy plus gifts from DFS will also be given for the best props and costume.
The participating bartenders and their companies are Ramil Eustaquio (Wonderful Bar), Jojo Solmarin (Moby Dick Restaurant), Emil Gammad and Jovel San Juan (Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino), Glen Aquino (Aqua Resort Club), Bernardine Aquino and Amapola Castro (Hyatt Regency Saipan), Rommel Usi and Willie Garon (Fiesta Resort & Spa), Rio Therese and Ji-hyun Kang (Pacific Island Club), Kenneth Cruzat (Country House Restaurant), Marlon Pineda (Saipan World Resort) and Michael Lim (Country Bar).
The two contestants in the Battle of Champions are Jay Torres of Aqua Resort Club and Jay Santos of The Flair.
Torres is the current champion in the Bar Wars Bartenders Cocktail Competition as well as the champion in the Taste of the Marianas 2009 Bartenders Cocktail Competition “Malibu Coconut Rum Challenge.”
Santos, on the other hand, won the 2008 Taste of the Marianas showmanship award en route to becoming the champion last year in the “Malibu Coconut Rum Challenge.
This year’s sponsors include the Marianas Visitors Authority, MARPAC Burnett’s Vodka, Duty Free Shoppers, IT&E, Coca Cola, Tinian Dynasty and Casino, and Jam-V Fashion Design.
