NMC to end Spring semester with 10 vacancies
The Northern Marianas College will end the Spring semester with 10 more vacancies in various positions, based on the institution’s website.
These vacancies were open since last year while other posts depend on the availability of funding for the purpose.
There were six instructor positions being advertised since last year but have remained unfilled up to this time.
These include two instructors for the nursing program, one for medical health services, one in psychology, an instructor for education, and a business department chair who will also do double duty as instructor. Except for the business department chair, all five vacant positions are to be filled pending the availability of funds. The instructor for psychology was advertised since May 30, 2008.
A vacancy for counselor for disability services has also been advertised since December 2008. The announcement was revised in March, to be filled pending the availability of funds.
Another vacant post is the nutrition education extension aide III, which has been open since November last year.
NMC also needs a program manager for its expanded degree and university partnership, which was opened in March 2009, and a program manager for the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, also advertised since March this year. The two positions are to be filled pending available funding.
At the moment, there are approximately 60 instructional staff at the college.
In an early interview, NMC Faculty Senate president Frank Sobolewski said the continuous lack of instructors at the college would impact the quality of education being offered the students.
He earlier disclosed that many instructors are handling “overload” credits to accommodate other classes. In the beginning of the semester, it was learned that some courses and programs were cancelled or dissolved as a result of the problem.
